OUR LATEST PRODUCTION…

AWARD WINNERS!

29 November 2018

We’re proud to be part of the team winning the Entertainment category  at the Virgin Money Giving Mind Media Awards on 29th November. Our film, Mental Health Tapestry, was one of the films put forward by The One Show as part of the winning entry. We’d like to thank everyone in the film: Judith Knox and the Thackray Medical Museum Leeds, Catherine Robins, Dr David O’Flynn, artist Hayley Mills-Styles, and presenter Jasmine Harman. Our production team were Producer Director Amelia Lavington (who was at the awards on our behalf) and then Senior Researcher, now AP, Ruth Bader. Brilliant work!

If you missed the film, it was about the incredible tapestry made in the Great Yarmouth Workhouse by inmate Lorina Bulwer around 1907. It consisted of thousands of embroidered words, many protesting against those detaining her, but often using strong language and not always coherent. Dr David O’Flynn helped us understand how the tapestry reveals Lorina’s mental illness. Artist Hayley Mills-Styles, who also works in textiles, told us how her art helps her deal with her own mental illness. It was a lovely film. Thanks to Series Producer Claire Megahey and Commissioning Editor Michael Armit at The One Show.
